Cortex Command

Cortex Command

In the world of Cortex Command, many people have chosen to amputate their entire bodies in order to prolong their lives and enable interstellar space travel. However, their disembodied brains are not helpless, as they can remotely control all sorts of machines and ships via artificial interfaces. In the role of one of these brains, you'll be able to switch control over many different expendable bodies to carry out dangerous tasks, all in the safety of your command bunker. Use these technological powers of telepathy to collect gold in the fully destructible terrain, and then buy even more bodies and materials with your newly acquired funds! You can even program the crude artificial intelligences of your puppet army to perform simple tasks (patrolling, digging, etc.) while your attention and direct control lies elsewhere. Use your accumulated powers to protect your brain, explore the world, and defeat your competition!

Story

Cortex Command is set a few hundred years in the future, where cybernetic humanity is able to travel between the stars and has already met several alien civilizations. Interstellar trade and prosperity prevail, but there is still an ever-expanding frontier to explore and exploit for valuable resources. In this gold rush of galactic proportions, fantastic adventures and brutal competition await you. You play as the boss of a small gold mining company that has just arrived on a newly discovered Earth-like planet. The large spaceship that brought you here, along with many other adventurers, is called TradeStar. It acts as a giant orbital safe and marketplace for fortune seekers who venture onto the planet's surface. The bodies, weapons and equipment you buy are sent into orbit from TradeStar and brought to you by a landing ship of your choice. However, it soon becomes clear that the planet is not as pristine as you initially thought, and you must quickly break away from your humble beginnings to survive and eventually discover the dangerous secrets of this alien world....
