Tiberian Sun, the sequel to the 1995 genre-premier Command & Conquer, is set in a bleak future where Tiberium contamination has spread across the world, rendering large regions uninhabitable, and the long-dormant Brotherhood of the NOD launches a surprise offensive against GDI forces.


Although the game is set only twenty years after its predecessor, the world of Tiberian Sun is quite different. The deadly Tiberium is infecting the world faster and faster, and has made a large part of the Earth uninhabitable for humans. To survive, the GDI has retreated to the Arctic regions of the world, while the NOD has set up camp underground. The story of the game is determined by the different goals of the GDI and the NOD. While the GDI strives to maintain world peace and discover the cause of tiberium, the NOD is hell-bent on world domination. The story is complicated by the apparent loss of Kane, the leader of the NOD, at the end of the first Tiberian War, which has plunged the Brotherhood into leaderless chaos. But that's not the end of the story, as the NOD has created a number of extremely powerful units through genetic mutation using Tiberium, which more than make up for the clan's lack of organization.
