2K Sports takes to the court with "COLLEGE HOOPS 2K6" for the PS2. Since the focus is more on coaching than on playing with famous stars, "COLLEGE HOOPS 2K6" puts the player in charge of their own NCAA team. Gamers can choose from nearly every NCAA coach currently active in the industry or create their own. Each coach has a range of different attributes that influence many aspects of the game. Charisma, for example, affects player recruitment and confidence, while discipline helps players stay focused on the game. Players can also present problems to the coach to solve, which also impacts the team’s performance. Players also have access to the coach’s notebook during the game. The notebook opens automatically when players need to make adjustments, rather than having to navigate through a series of menus. Another new feature is the four focus areas: ball control, defense, rebounds, and shot selection. Selecting a focus area increases the team’s effectiveness in that area in proportion to the coach’s attributes. Recruiting has also been improved and optimized. During the season, players can keep an eye on 15 potential recruits, monitor their interest and statistics, and choose to manage recruitment themselves or leave many of the decisions to the assistant coaches. COLLEGE HOOPS 2K6 perfectly captures all aspects of coaching an NCAA team, but never overwhelms the player thanks to assistant coaches and other options.
