Chrono Trigger

Chrono Trigger

In this turn-based Japanese role-playing game, young Crono must travel through time through a malfunctioning teleporter to rescue his unfortunate companion and participate in an intricate web of past and present dangers. The ensuing adventure soon reveals an evil force that wants to destroy the world, triggering Crono's race against time to change the course of history and bring about a better future.

Story

Crono meets Marle In the year 1000 AD, a teenager named Crono from Truce visits a fair celebrating the 1000th anniversary of the kingdom of Guardia. At the fair he meets Princess Nadia, or Marle, the immediate heir to Guardia. Crono and Marle attend a demonstration of Crono's friend Lucca's teleportation device. A reaction between the device and Marle's pendant, which has been passed down for generations, causes a time gate to open and Marle is transported to the year 600 AD, the Middle Ages. Crono immediately follows her with the pendant and discovers that Marle has been mistaken for the Queen of Guardia from that time (Queen Leene had disappeared before Marle's appearance, and the search party mistook Marle for her). When Crono visits Marle, he sees her disappear. After Lucca enters the area with a gate key (a device that can open gates), she explains that Marle's ancestors, who have never been found, are the reason. (As a side note, Lucca is almost certainly wrong here, as her explanation contradicts all other instances of time change in the Chrono series. Marle's imprisonment was most likely an action by the Entity to send Crono on his quest). Crono, Lucca and a knight in the form of a frog free Queen Leene, after which Marle reappears at Guardia Castle. Crono, Marle and Lucca make their way to 1000 AD. Lavos is unmasked Lucca immediately sets off for home, while Crono is instructed to take Marle to Guardia Castle. Once there, Crono is accused of kidnapping the princess and put on trial. He is either found guilty or not guilty and sentenced to three days in solitary confinement with the possibility of execution. With the help of Lucca, Crono breaks out of prison and fights the Chancellor of Guardia; after winning the fight, Marle joins the group and the trio flees into the forest of Guardia. Cornered, they hide in a gate in a nearby meadow. It quickly transports them to the year 2300 AD, where a destroyed, ruined world exists. Curious about this time, the trio travels to various futuristic domes and ruined cities (called Labs) and eventually discovers from a video recording that a giant creature called Lavos, which hibernates beneath the planet (more on this in the upcoming Lavos article), emerged in 1999 AD and destroyed the entire world. Crono's group refuses to let this go and vows to fight Lavos. On their journey to the year 2300 AD, they come across a damaged humanoid robot. Lucca repairs the mechanical man, named Robo, and attempts to return home through a gate in the Proto-Dome where Robo was located. A door blocks the way, so Crono, Robo and either Lucca or Marle must go to a nearby factory to restore power to the deactivated gate. The group then goes through the gate. The end of time Due to the Theorem of the Conservation of Time (see the article Principles of Time and Dimensional Travel), Crono, Marle, Lucca and Robo end up at the End of Time, which is guarded by an old man. The man gives the group, who want to defeat Lavos, a little hope. Before they leave, Crono and the friends visit Spekkio, the so-called "God of War", who also lives with the old man at the end of time. Spekkio equips each member with magical abilities and then provides new members with magic (for the technique of this process, see the upcoming article on magic). All gates are connected to the end of time, says the old man. The party leaves the city through a gate that takes them to the year 1000 AD, but to a different continent than the one on which the Kingdom of Guardia is located. The party enters Medina, the city of the Mystics, an ethnic group of sorcerers and monsters who waged war with humans in 600 AD under the leadership of the magician Magus. The party must fight a Heckran monster to return to Guardia, and during his final speech, the party learns that Magus supposedly created Lavos in 600 AD. After fending off the mystics on the Zenan Bridge, they learn that a special sword, the Masamune, can defeat Magus. They climb into the Denadoro Mountains to retrieve the sword and fight the spirits remaining in the blade. After they win, Crono receives a broken piece. Restore the Masamune The party then visits the location of Frog, the knight who helped them save Queen Leene. He gives them the other piece of the Masamune. To repair the blade, the party seeks out Melchior, a blacksmith from the year 1000 A.D. He instructs the party to find the dreamstone that was used to forge the sword. The party travels to 65,000,000 BC and learns that the chieftain of a human village (Ioka village) at war with an ethnicity that is half dinosaur, half human, possesses the mineral in question. Ayla immediately counters the party by fending off Reptites, and invites Crono to a party. By successfully drinking more soup than Ayla, Crono obtains the Dreamstone. But the Reptites attack the villagers at midnight and steal the gate key. Cinema, Ayl
