Broken Sword 2.5: The Return of the Templars
Broken Sword 2.5: The Return of the Templars is a fan-developed sequel that continues the story after the first two games of the Broken Sword adventure series and ties in with the events before the third game. Like the first two games, it uses a 2D view with point-and-click gameplay, rather than the 3D view of the later games. Familiar locations around the world are mixed with new locations and characters. George, Nico, and André all return, but new ones like Christophe Brai and English historian Jimmy McLaugh also play important roles. Movement is done with the mouse, with the cursor automatically switching to an available action when hovering over a hotspot. Items are stored in an inventory and dialog trees are displayed as icons representing items or characters. Players take turns controlling George and Nico through the story. It is also possible to die in the game. Although it is an homage to the original series, the production values are high, with completely new environments, characters, rendered cutscenes, sounds, and a storyline that corresponds to the original games. Some people involved in the original game have participated, and there is a complete German (with some voices from the original games) and English voice acting.
Story
The protagonist of the series, George Stobbart, leaves Nico for a year for an important trip to the USA. During this time, his grandfather dies of cancer. While he is in the USA, he receives a telegram from France informing him of Nico's death. Confused, he hurries back to France, only to discover that Nico is still alive and is not at all surprised by the telegram. She doesn't like the unexpected reunion and tells him to leave immediately. While he is trying to sort everything out at the Cafe della Chandelle Verte in Paris, George receives an alarming message about Nico from the French inspector André Lobineau. It could turn out that the Neo-Templars still exist.
