Broken Lines

Broken Lines

Broken Lines is a war game with a serious story told from the perspective of individual soldiers. A game for people who like real-time tactics and strategy games, but are too slow to play them. Give orders to your men while you're on break - and in total control. Then watch them execute them in real time - which sometimes leads to catastrophic failures. Play the campaign with random missions and non-linear storylines. Select your squad and equip them. Train them in unique combat skills and perks. Plan your move in pause mode and watch it play out in real time. Use cover and flanking to defeat the enemy. Rewind the level to avoid losses and make better loot. Manage your resources and survive until you either find your way out of the valley or lose your way and your conscience in the process.

Story

Dusk. An army transport plane crosses the red evening sky. The engine hums. In the plane's cargo hold, the only light is a lazy wall lamp. A group of soldiers sleep soundly despite the bumpy flight. Heads bob on their shoulders. Suddenly the lights go out, everything is dark. And then all the engines give up the ghost. The plane crashes silently. Soldiers, weapons and papers are tossed around in the cabin as everything turns vertical. The plane disappears behind treetops and a huge explosion follows. The few surviving soldiers wake up in the scattered, burning wreckage. When the soldiers gather, it turns out that all the superior officers are dead and the mission plans were presumably destroyed in the fire. Only eight soldiers survived. Four rookies and four veterans. They argue over who should lead, who should eat, who is expendable and who should survive, but decide to stay together for now. The squad begins an uneasy march to a nearby village, but is soon chased by local enemy forces who aggressively seek to eliminate the invaders. Fear creeps in as the group slowly realizes that they are stranded with no allies, no supplies, no clear orders, and no destination. There are two ways the group can proceed. They can try to continue the original mission - or they can try to save themselves. The rookies are convinced that something sinister is going on with the fog and the enemies in the valley. They want to solve the mystery, destroy the potential threat, and go home as heroes. The veterans just want to gather resources so they can survive and escape - whatever the cost. Broken Lines It is a game about a group of soldiers who get into a bad situation and how they react to the increasing pressure and stress. Some soldiers are affected more than others, which leads to a greater divide within the troop. Since the soldiers have no clear leadership or plan, conflicts arise within the troop. The player decides which direction the soldiers should go. Do they try to figure out what their mission is, or do they just want to survive and escape their situation. What is acceptable in wartime and what lines should never be crossed, even if your life depends on it?
