Blazing Star

Blazing Star

Blazing Star is a scrolling shooter video game for the Neo Geo home game system. It is the sequel to the acclaimed Neo Geo shooter Pulstar, which in turn was a close relative of the R-Type franchise. At 346 MB, the game is a typical Neo Geo ROM and makes extensive use of pseudo-3D drawn sprites, short anime and CGI cutscenes (especially during the intro sequence), and frequent engrish voice samples and subtitles. Although Blazing Star was in many ways superior to the earlier shooter games, some fans compare it to Pulstar because Blazing Star was too simple, and some prefer the simpler 2D sprite look to the prerendered sprites that dominated many of the newer shoot-em-ups.

Story

At some point in their past, the planets Remuria and Mutras began an interplanetary war that would not end. The endless struggle between the human-like inhabitants of the two planets had been going on for so long that weapons development was moving into dangerous territory: organic weapons production combined with alien technology. Soon, a sentient weapon - Brawshella - was born. Brawshella gathered all animal life on both planets and forced it to do its bidding and attack the humans. Within a week, the humans were assimilated by Brawshella. But once assimilated, they found no purpose in life other than to continue fighting each other. After some time, six of the assimilated fighter pilots regained consciousness and remembered their past. Rediscovering their humanity, the pilots were faced with the choice of following Brawshella's orders or fighting against her to regain their independence. The pilots eventually stand against the machine to find themselves and reclaim their planets.
