Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean
An original role-playing game for Nintendo GameCube from the team behind Xenosaga. The game uses cards for everything, from combat to buying items. The cards are also a central part of the story, as they are holders for "Magnus", short for "Magna Essence". Magnus is the true nature of everything in the world, including swords, spells and even apples collected in the city where your adventure begins. A real item can be transformed into Magnus form and stored in a blank card. It can then be removed from the card and transform back into the real form. Detailed CG cutscenes that tell the story and turn-based combat sequences.
Story
The existence of Earth, a planet with continents surrounded by deep oceans, has long since become nothing more than a legend. People now live on islands floating high in the skies. They also have wings - "Wings of the Hearts" - that grow on their backs. Kalas is a young man who was born with only one wing - the second one he replaces with an artificial wing made by great masters. He is in search of the murderers of his grandfather and brother. He meets a girl named Xelha who wants to stop an evil conspiracy that threatens the country, and they team up against the newly emerged evil.
