Armored Core: Project Phantasma
“Armored Core: Project Phantasma” is a standalone expansion of the original “Armored Core,” which was released for the PlayStation in 1997. The game focuses on arena combat, introducing ranked duels against rival pilots. Players customize a humanoid mech using interchangeable parts that affect mobility, firepower, and energy consumption. The game places less emphasis on mission variety and more on refining mechanics and combat skill. Its structure and mechanics helped define competitive elements that became central to later entries in the series.
Story
The Raven (protagonist) receives an unusual request. In the cryptic message, the player is asked to infiltrate a mysterious underground complex called Amber Crown and is promised an extremely lucrative reward. In Amber Crown, the player meets Sumika Juutilainen, an escapee from the enigmatic Doomsday Organization (Wednesday Organization in Japan), a shadowy group operating in the complex. Sumika becomes the player's most important client and partner during the missions in Amber Crown. As the player completes more missions, he develops a rivalry with an Armored Core pilot named Stinger, who is in the service of the Doomsday Organization. Stinger becomes more and more dangerous as the secret of Amber Crown is revealed, which eventually leads to the unveiling of Project Phantasma. Project Phantasma is a top-secret development project of the Doomsday Organization and a weapon system that would change the balance of power. Sumika and Stinger were test subjects for this project. Stinger wants to use the power of the Phantasma weapon and tries to use it against the player. The player's continued success leads Stinger to merge with Phantasma and challenge the player to a final battle. The player defeats Stinger and destroys the Phantasma project, leading to the dissolution of the Doomsday Organization.
