Angel Beats! -1st beat- is a Japanese visual novel for all ages that was developed by Key and is the first part of a series of six volumes. The game is based on the 2010 anime TV series Angel Beats! and also adapts scenes from the anime. The gameplay in Angel Beats! follows an interactive, branching storyline with several scenarios. The story takes place in the afterlife and revolves around Otonashi, a boy who has lost his memories of his life after his death. He is enrolled at school in the afterlife and meets a girl named Yuri, who invites him to join the Afterlife Battlefront - an organization she leads that fights against God. The Battlefront fights against the student council president Angel, a girl with supernatural powers.
