Alone in the Dark

"Alone in the Dark" is one of the first survival horror games and the first to use 3D models against pre-rendered backgrounds—an approach that became a major inspiration for subsequent horror games, such as the "Resident Evil" series. The player can use various weapons, including pistols, rifles, swords, and knives, though it is possible to defeat most enemies with melee attacks. Some enemies can be defeated by solving a specific puzzle, while a significant number of enemies cannot be killed at all or can only be killed with certain weapons.

Story

Set in Louisiana in the 1920s, the game follows the two playable protagonists that the player can choose, Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood, to uncover the mystery surrounding the suicide of Jeremy Hartwood at Derceto Manor, a mansion deep in the swamps that is rumored to be haunted.
