Alone in the Dark

Alone in the Dark is one of the first survival horror games and the first to use 3D models on pre-rendered backgrounds, which was an important inspiration for future horror games such as the Resident Evil series. You can use various weapons such as pistols, rifles, swords, and knives, although most enemies can also be defeated with melee attacks. Some enemies can be defeated by solving a specific puzzle, while a considerable number of enemies cannot be killed at all or can only be killed with certain weapons.

Story

Set in Louisiana in the 1920s, the game follows the two playable protagonists that the player can choose, Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood, to uncover the mystery surrounding the suicide of Jeremy Hartwood at Derceto Manor, a mansion deep in the swamps that is rumored to be haunted.
