The king's greed knew no bounds and he set about bankrupting his people by taxing their hard-earned acorns. With no acorns left, the peasants grew angrier and angrier with each passing day. One cold, dark evening, the king sent his trusty tax man to collect the acorns from Charles DeMontequirrel, who had refused to pay the unjust nut tax. When the tax man knocked on Charles' wooden door, it swung wide open. Charles stood before the tax collector, visibly upset at being scolded for not obeying the king's unjust edicts. Charles could no longer simply refuse to pay and just wanted to make things right. He grabbed the document that the tax collector held in front of him and tore it to pieces. A call to arms rang out and a skirmish broke out in front of Charles' house as he took up the fight with the tax collector and set out to destroy the king and his men.
