A Nightmare on Elm Street
"A Nightmare on Elm Street" is an action game based on the movie of the same name. In it, you try to rescue your friends from the clutches of the evil Freddy Krueger. Find a way into Freddy’s house on Elm Street, enter the nightmare world, and fight him using unique powers—or die trying! Before the game begins, you must first select one of five available characters to rescue Joey, who, as shown on this selection screen, has already been captured by Freddy. If you spend too much time in this section, Freddy can capture a random character until only one selectable character remains—so choose a character quickly! Once a character is selected, all other characters are considered captured by Freddy and must also be rescued. Each character has a different Soul and Power gauge, as well as unique abilities. The Soul gauge represents the player’s health—if it’s empty, the player dies. The Power gauge is depleted every time the player uses a special ability.
Story
The game takes place in the Elm Street neighborhood and is played from a side-scrolling perspective. The game environment is inhabited by hostile characters (such as zombies, cats, dogs, skeletons, bats and minotaurs) that attack the character. If the player experiences a certain number of attacks, they lose a life. As the game takes place at midnight, certain areas are initially closed to the player and require a key to gain access later. In the individual buildings, the player must collect the bones scattered throughout the level before he/she can leave them. Once all the bones have been collected, a boss fight with Freddy begins. If you defeat Freddy, you can leave the area and receive a key that gives you access to a new area.
