64th Street: A Detective Story
Players One and Two begin with the two selectable protagonists, Rick and Allen. Each private detective uses a different fighting style and tries to solve cases by beating up every criminal he encounters. Many special items can be found by throwing enemies into the background and breaking things, typical of this popular genre in the arcades of the 1990s. Along the way, you'll be beset by all sorts of thugs and tough guys, whose costumes range from 1980s hip-hop gear to stereotypical pirates. The bosses are especially tough due to strange special attacks.
Story
The story begins in a typical Double Dragon/Final Fight setting on 64th Street with two protagonists: Rick (Anderson), a calm and intelligent 35-year-old professional private investigator and head of the detective agency; and Allen (Tombs), a 19-year-old reformed felon who was trained by Rick and is "short tempered and violent when he's angry." As the plot begins, an evil corporation, the Legacy Organization, has kidnapped the daughter of a wealthy middle-aged man and left him a letter explaining why they took her. One night, just before Rick and Allen were about to close their office, the middle-aged rich man stormed into the office, exhausted. He asked for help in rescuing his daughter and handed the letter to Rick and Allen. The next day, Allen noticed an ad in the classifieds with a similar sentence structure to the kidnappers' letter. Rick couldn't easily understand it until Allen told him to take a close look at both the letter and the ad. They quickly realized that the writing was a secret code that only certain crime lords understood. So Rick and Allen set off for the Legacy organization's main base to find out the truth and rescue the kidnapped daughter. The setting takes on a steampunk character as the story progresses, culminating in a battle in an airship.
