Tony Hawk's American Sk8land

Tony Hawk's American Sk8land

Tony Hawk's American Sk8land is the handheld version of American Wasteland, the seventh installment in the Tony Hawk's series. It is the first installment of the series for the Nintendo DS and the fifth to be released for the Game Boy Advance. American Sk8land uses cel-shaded graphics and was developed by Vicarious Visions, the developer of the Tony Hawk games for Game Boy Advance. The game is based on its console counterpart American Wasteland and features the same soundtrack, many of the same environments and characters. The top screen displays the actual gameplay, while the touchscreen shows an overview map of the area where the player is skating, as well as icons for easily performing tricks. The touch screen is also used to create skateboard artwork. In addition to the DS features, you can use the DS microphone to record your own sound clips for the game. American Sk8land was the first third-party Nintendo DS game to support Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, the online service for the Nintendo DS. Players can play Trick Attack, Score Challenge, Combo Mambo and The Price is Wrong. In addition, players can upload or download graffiti, board art, high scores and replays to one of the servers, and regularly download new goals to complete. In the DS version, the ability to get off the skateboard and walk around has been removed; however, this has been somewhat offset by the ability to stop completely and turn the camera. The name is taken from the Game Boy Advance version, which was also developed by Vicarious Visions. However, the GBA version doesn't have the same graphics, but an isometric perspective, polygonal skaters and pre-rendered levels that create a 3D feel.
