The King of Fighters 2006
The King of Fighters: Maximum Impact 2 was released in North America as The King of Fighters 2006 and is a sequel to The King of Fighters: Maximum Impact. MI2 brings you back to the team fighting universe of KOF with the added benefit of using a polygon engine. All the characters from the original MI return and are joined by 4 newcomers and 14 secret guest stars, for a total of 38 characters, each with a unique story mode and dozens of possible costumes. The story this time revolves around the appearance of the evil Jivatma in South Town, where all the heroes come together for their own reasons. Gameplay changes include the ability to dodge and pick up various moves; additional backgrounds and bonus features can be unlocked after completing the story mode, mission mode and time attack challenges.
Story
Many claimed that the illegal fighting tournament in Southtown was sponsored by the gangster syndicate "Mephistopheles" to destroy their rivals and raise some working capital. After their "King" Duke suffered a defeat to Alba Meira in the finals, he and his organization disappeared from Southtown. Meanwhile, the media, firmly in Duke's hands, published a flood of sensational revelations based on information from confidential sources about their former oppressors. Despite this new flood of "information," almost no one knew that an even larger entity was pulling the strings of Mephistopheles. The truth behind the name of the Addes organization was known only in the dark recesses of the underworld. No one really had any idea what this organization really entailed. Now another one of Addes was going to unveil a new Battle Royale. Invitations in white envelopes were sent to the powerful of the world, who will find Addes' call to battle irresistible. As revealed in Alba Meira's private novel by Akihiko Ureshino on the official KOF Maximum Impact 2 website (which serves as the official continuation of KOF Maximum Impact 2's story), Alba was actually the one who defeated Jivatma and Luise. Soiree was then kidnapped and Alba hasn't seen him since.
