The Forest

Story

The game begins with the player, Eric Leblanc, on a plane with his son, Timmy Leblanc, when the plane mysteriously crashes on a remote island. The player and his son survive the crash, but the player watches helplessly as his son is kidnapped by a man in red war paint. In addition to trying to survive in the wilderness and fending off hostile wildlife and savage, cannibalistic mutants, the player searches the peninsula for his son. The forest surface leaves clues that help the player unravel the story, but most of the action takes place in the caves that dot the underside of the peninsula. Eventually, the player discovers an abandoned underground laboratory complex where an artifact has been researched that can bring the dead back to life, but for which a child must be sacrificed. The player finds out that the kidnapper wanted to sacrifice the player's son in order to revive his daughter. However, the player finds out that the daughter has mutated into an aggressive cannibalistic monster, similar to the other mutants that roam the peninsula. The player confronts the child, who attacks him and mutates further before attacking him, resulting in the daughter's death. The player then attempts to use the daughter's body to revive his son, but the process fails as a live victim is needed. The player explores the lab further and discovers a second artifact that functions as a type of EMP device and can bring down nearby planes, suggesting that it is the cause of his own plane crash. The player uses the artifact to crash another plane in order to find a victim to revive his son. A year later, the player and his son are seemingly rescued and are invited on a talk show to promote a book the player has written describing his experience. During the show, however, the gambler's son collapses and has a seizure, suggesting that he is undergoing the same mutation as his daughter.
