Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows takes you back to the beginning. With seamless drop-in, drop-out co-op, team combos and relentless combat, this is the game fans have been waiting for. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows is a downloadable game published by Activision and developed by Red Fly Studio. Out of the Shadows is a four-player online co-op fighting game with a "skill-based combat system built on combo action." Out of the Shadows is not based on the 2012 series, but is set in its own "hyper-realistic 3D-style" world inspired by the series. It was released on August 28, 2013 for Xbox Live Arcade and Windows PCs (Steam platform). It was originally scheduled for September 24, 2013 on the PlayStation Network, but exactly a week before that it was heavily delayed and finally appeared on April 15, 2014. The game was removed from all digital stores in January 2017, as Activision decided not to renew the license.

Story

April O'Neil regains consciousness in a destroyed warehouse. She wants to continue her mission with the Turtles and remembers her training with Master Splinter. She runs and climbs through a tangle of cargo crates as the warehouse is ravaged from the outside by something that fires laser beams and is powerful enough to hurl a truck through the wall. She finally makes it outside in the pouring rain and senses that she is being pursued by an unseen enemy. She tries to call the Turtles on her T-phone for assistance, but all she gets is Donatello's voicemail. Quickly, she makes her way to the lights of the police cars.... but Karai catches her before she can reach them! Donatello finally answers, but all that's left of April is her phone. Earlier that day, the other three Turtles' daily training is interrupted by Donnie and April, who introduces him to his latest invention: a series of tiny transponders built into April's boots to track her movements around the city, which, given her adventures with the boys, means she can go practically anywhere, allowing the Turtles to track the activities of bad guys all over the island. Leonardo is impressed. Raphael is not. April is pleased that she can keep track of her daily mileage, which Raph thinks is pretty cool. When they check the map of the boot against a police scanner, the gang discovers that there has been a wave of robberies of labs throughout Manhattan, some of which were perpetrated by the Purple Dragons. The Turtles are suspicious that a street gang is interested in high tech and decide to investigate. Sunset; The Turtles track the latest robbery to a tattoo parlor and confront the gang when they learn the location of the next robbery from the walkie-talkie of an unconscious gang member. As they sneak through a pizza parlor, they encounter another squad of Purple Dragons in an alley and make their way to the rooftops, discovering that the Dragons' next target is one of the Kraang's TCRI facilities. A firefight ensues between the Kraang and the Dragons, in which the Turtles become involved. When the police arrive, one of the gang tries to escape with a truck full of stolen Krang technology, but Leo shoots the tires with a shuriken. The Turtles track the fleeing driver to the subway, where, after taking out the other gangs, they discover Foot clan markings on the walls of a disused subway used by the Foot and Purple Dragons to transport stolen goods. When they climb onto the roof of one of these trains, they are confronted by Karai and several Foot ninjas. Before they can take her down, the kunoichi releases a strange glowing green explosive that blows up the train and turns the brothers into dust.
