SimFarm

SimFarm

SimFarm was developed by Maxis as a spin-off of SimCity and allowed the player to simulate the operation of a farm. It appeared in 1993 for PC Dos and was released a year later for Macintosh. It became a classic and established the later development of the farm simulation subgenre, although unlike SimCity, Maxis did not develop a sequel to the game.

Story

SimFarm mirrors the tasks on a real farm: players have to cultivate the land, construct buildings, buy and sell livestock, and grow crops. There is also a weather and season system that offers the same challenges as on a real farm. As in SimCity, there are disasters that can wreak havoc on the player's farm. Tornadoes, droughts, pests and dust storms are just some of the events that can disrupt crops and cultivation. SimFarm also has a small city in its simulation. This city is reminiscent of SimCity in its form and function. The player can occasionally interact with the city by suggesting new tile types and participating in contests with his/her livestock (for example, by sending in a prize pig to receive a blue ribbon and a cash prize). If you suggest building an airport in the city, it will usually be built, so you can buy and use a crop duster. The homestead in SimFarm is the player's residence and is expanded at the beginning of each game year, if the player earned enough money in the previous year.
