Saints Row: The Third

Saints Row: The Third

Saints Row: The Third is the first Saints Row game set in the city of Steelport. Similar to the first two games, the story revolves around the Saints destroying and absorbing three rival gangs and taking over the city in the process. In Saints Row: The Third, these three gangs are the Morningstar, the Luchadores and the Deckers. Unlike in the first two games, these three gangs are controlled by a criminal organization called the Syndicate, with which the Saints must also contend.

Story

Some time after the fall of the Ultor Corporation, the 3rd Street Saints have turned their street gang into a media empire and have become icons and household names around the world, with their own energy drink, Japanese commercials, toys, a huge fan base and a movie deal in the works. But when they try to rob a bank with actor Josh Birk, who is to play a member of the Saints, their everyday life takes an unlikely turn when the bank employees unexpectedly start an all-out war of arms against the Saints. The Saints attempt to airlift the vault out of the building, but when Birk foolishly sets off the alarm, the Stilwater police are alerted and after a major firefight with the police and S.W.A.T., the Saints are arrested. In jail, Johnny Gat, the Saints' second-in-command, laments what has become of the Saints and is disappointed that they have strayed from their roots. At this point, an international criminal organization called The Syndicate bribes the police to release the boss, Gat and Shaundi. The three are forcibly taken to the leader of The Syndicate, Phillipe Loren, who wants to negotiate a business plan with them aboard Loren's private jet. During the flight, Loren tells them that they will be allowed to stay alive if they cede 2/3 of the Saints' business in Stilwater. The Boss and Gat immediately reject this offer and are able to fight their way out while Gat pilots the plane back to Stilwater. The Boss and Shaundi use a parachute to escape from the plane, but it is assumed that Gat will be killed in the process. After landing, the Boss and Shaundi find themselves in Steelport, a dystopian crime town controlled by the Syndicate, a group of three gangs: The Morning Star, a gang with advanced technological equipment controlled by Loren himself, the Luchadores, a Mexican gang led by the killer wrestler Killbane, and the Deckers, a hacker gang led by Matt Miller. After calling Pierce Washington, the boss's second-in-command, to Steelport, the Saints seize a Morning Star penthouse as their new headquarters, hijack a drone from a military base, and begin attacking Morning Star's stores. This culminates in an attack on Syndicate Tower, Loren's headquarters, in which the Saints rescue Oleg Kirlov, an apparent superhuman and model for the Syndicate's Brute clones, and kill Loren. When the Saints attempt to bring Gat's body to Stilwater for his funeral, Killbane, now leader of the Syndicate, attacks them. In the fight, the Hughes Memorial Bridge in Stilwater is destroyed. To retaliate, the player scouts for talent against the Syndicate and recruits Oleg as an enforcer, former FBI hacker Kinzie Kensington as an informant, Zimos, the oldest pimp in Steelport, and Angel de la Muerte, Killbane's vengeful former tag team partner. Later, Viola DeWynter joins them after Killbane kills her twin sister Kiki out of rage over a failed assassination attempt on the boss. Their defection, however, coincides with the arrival in Steelport of the paramilitary S.T.A.G. (Special Tactical Anti-Gang) force, formed by Senator Monica Hughes after the destruction of the bridge to end gang violence once and for all. The Saints take on the STAG anyway, resulting in martial law being declared in Steelport while also dealing with the Syndicate. After providing Kinzie with the appropriate technology, the player penetrates the Deckers' mainframe, defeats the avatar of Deckers leader Matt Miller in a virtual reality battle, and drives him and most of the Deckers out of town. At Angel's urging, the player decides to take on Killbane by killing the other participants in his Murderbrawl XXXI pay-per-view to gain access, and then with Angel's help, defeats Killbane in the Murderbrawl, choosing to unmask or spare him. After his humiliating defeat, an enraged Killbane responds by launching multiple attacks on the Saints and STAG throughout Steelport to cause chaos. While quelling the fighting between the Luchadores and the STAG, Boss simultaneously learns that Killbane is fleeing the city while the STAG deputy commander holds Kia Shaundi, Viola and Mayor Burt Reynolds hostage at a Steelport monument that is to be blown up to frame the Saints. The Boss kills Kia and rescues Shaundi and the others. The Saints are hailed as heroes for saving the monument, and STAG retreats from Steelport, threatening to come back. The Boss tracks Killbane down on Mars and kills him in a scene from the Saints science fiction film Gangstas in Space, starring the Boss and several members. An alternate, non-canon ending plays out when the player chooses to eliminate Killbane. In it, the destruction of the monument is used by STAG as an excuse to attack Steelport with the aircraft carrier Daedalus. The Boss destroys the Daedalus, killing STAG leader Cyrus Temple in the process, and declares Steelport an independent city-state under Saints control, with Pierce as mayor and the Boss as supreme leader.
