Project Justice

Project Justice

Project Justice is the sequel to Rival Schools: United By Fate. Project Justice's combat system is taken from the original Rival Schools, with some notable changes. The game is still a team fighter, but the teams consist of three characters instead of two. This allows for another team-up attack to be used in a fight, but there is also a new attack type, the Party-Up, which is triggered by pressing any three attack buttons. The Party-Up is a three-person attack that differs depending on the school of the character that triggers the attack. The additional partner also allows players to cancel an opponent's Team-Up Special by entering a Team-Up command of their own. This will trigger a short combat sequence between one character from each team. If the person triggering the sequence lands the first successful hit during the sequence before time runs out, the Team-Up they are caught in will be cancelled and the game will switch back to the main fight; if the opposing player lands the first hit or time runs out, the Team-Up will continue as normal. Also, the power meter in Project Justice is limited to 5 levels (down from 9 in Rival Schools), with party-ups requiring all 5 levels, team-ups still costing two levels, and each attempt (successful or not) to cancel a team-up costing one level. The Dreamcast port of Project Justice in Japan also includes a character creation mode, allowing players to create their own fighters that can be used in all modes except single player. However, the character creation in Project Justice is packaged as a board game that takes place during a school festival, rather than a date simulation like in Rival Schools. Like the school life mode in Rival Schools, this board game is not included in the non-Japanese ports of Project Justice, as it would be too time-consuming to translate the mode. Instead, several unlockable side characters have been included in these ports, based on the character creation portions of the Japanese version.

Story

A year has passed since the events in Rival Schools: United By Fate and things in Aoharu City have returned to normal. Batsu Ichimonji, Hinata Wakaba, Kyosuke Kagami and the other fighters have resumed their normal school routines and are enjoying the peace they found after their last adventure. But the peace doesn't last long and soon the fighters are involved in a new battle. Kurow Kirishima: A cold-hearted and ruthless ninja assassin from a mysterious group known only as the Reversed Society targets the Imawano family and plans to eliminate them and their allies so he can further his own ambition to rule Japan. To this end, he attacks Raizo Imawano: the principal of Justice High and father of Batsu, so that he can easily incapacitate him and prevent any interference from him. Second, he sends both his older sister Yurika Kirishima and his loyal subordinate Momo Karuizawa into the ranks of the fighters so that the two can create tension and distrust between the friends. His third plan involves brainwashing Gedo gang leader Daigo Kazama into forcing his gang to attack different schools to cause even more tension. Finally, Kurow himself plans to destroy Batsu's reputation by disguising himself as Batsu's double (named Vatsu) to attack the fighters and make them think Batsu is behind it. Batsu and his friends must resist Kurow's evil plan and try not to let their friendship be destroyed by the plot of a deadly ninja assassin.
