Story

"Well, on one level it's the basic story of good and evil. On another level, it's the themes of totalitarianism in disguise and desperate revolution. The game strives to be relevant in the real world by being part of the game. Does that make sense? By strongly linking the concept of the game Omikron to reality and defining the player's character in relation to his actual life, we have clearly connected the parallel universe to our own. In this way, the player's life becomes the setting of the game. Quantic believes it could be the world's first Buddhist game - Buddhist with guns, I call it. - Eidos Senior Designer Philip Campbell Shortly after the player begins investigating the Anekbah sector, he comes across information that suggests the serial killer he is looking for is not actually human, but a demon. When members of what appears to be an anti-government underground movement contact the player and confirm his suspicions, the investigation deepens and he discovers that one of Omikron's top police commanders (Commander Gandahar) is actually a demon posing as a human and luring human souls from other dimensions to Omikron via the video game the player is currently interacting with. Despite numerous attempts on his life by other demons working behind the scenes, the player uses supernatural weapons of ancient origin to destroy Gandhar. After this brief victory, the player is invited to join the mysterious anti-government movement that calls itself "The Awakened", referring to the fact that they are "awakened" from the government's lies and drugs. The Awakened work with an ancient religious order led by "Boz", a mystical being that exists in purely electronic form on Omikron's computer networks. The Awakened call the player "Nomad Soul" because he has the ability to change his body at will. The Nomad Soul also learns that what is going on in Omikron is only a continuation of a millennia-old battle between humanity and demons, led by the powerful Astaroth. Astaroth, who was banished to the depths of Omikron long ago, is slowly regenerating his power, using demons to collect souls and pose as high government officials so that he can eventually take complete control of the planet and even the universe. Only by harnessing ancient magical technologies and rediscovering several hidden tombs and catacombs beneath Omikron's surface can the nomadic soul hope to figure out how to destroy Astaroth, return to his own dimension, and prevent his soul from being captured by demons.
