Minnesota Fats: Pool Legend

Minnesota Fats: Pool Legend

Minnesota Fats: Pool Legend (released in Japan as Side Pocket 2) is a pocket billiards video game for the Sega Genesis and Sega Saturn, starring the famous billiards player Rudolf "Minnesota Fats" Wanderone. It was released as a sequel to Data East's earlier success Side Pocket. The aim is to travel through various cities and defeat AI-controlled hustlers. The player can also compete against another human player to prove their worthiness at the pool table. The player can take part in a story mode and play in six different pool halls against a number of professionals and try to compete against Minnesota Fats himself. There are seven different variants of pool to play: Eight-Ball, Nine-Ball, Rotation, 14-1 rack, Three ball, Cut Throat & One Pocket. There is also a Versus mode where players can play against any opponent of their choice, including a two-player option to play against a friend, as well as a Tournament mode. Players can also try out Trick Mode, in which they attempt to play 16 different trick shots. The Saturn version of the game plays largely the same as the Genesis version, but includes a training mode, a short documentary about Minnesota Fats and a completely different storyline in the story mode. In the Genesis version, the player takes on the role of a nameless billiards rookie who wants to challenge Minnesota Fats. In the Saturn version, the player takes on the role of Minnesota Fats himself, who challenges fictitious billiards players from the United States; live action videos (FMVs) are used for the cutscenes. In Japan, the title Side Pocket 2 is only used in the Saturn version, while the Genesis version retains the title Minnesota Fats: Pool Legend.
