Metal Gear Acid

Metal Gear Acid

Metal Gear Acid is a turn-based collectible card game. It was the first game in the Metal Gear series for the PSP. A Java ME version for cell phones was released in 2008 by Glu Mobile under the title Metal Gear Acid Mobile. Acid focuses on turn-based tactics and uses a trading card system to control the movements and actions of the main character. Acid in the name stands for "Active Command Intelligence Duel". The cards are not actually collectible, as the game is complete with a single purchase. However, the game contains elements for deck design and deck optimization. The game allows multiplayer gameplay through wireless ad-hoc connections between two PSPs. Before each round, the player can customize the deck of cards used by the main characters. Most of the cards are based on elements from the entire Metal Gear series, such as weapons, characters and even the Metal Gear itself. When the game starts, the player's hand can consist of a maximum of six cards. The maximum number of cards in a deck increases as the game progresses. In action mode, the player can choose whether to use the cards as intended or use them to move the character. Most cards only allow the player to move three spaces, while certain cards allow the player to move up to six or more spaces. The cost is an important factor in the game and can be summarized as the weight of the player's action. With a few exceptions, all cards have a cost that is transferred to the player when they are used. The costs vary greatly from card to card. The higher the cost of a character, the longer that character must wait until their next turn. An example: If a player character costs 15 and a guard costs 10, the guard takes his turn before the player character. Some cards can be equipped; cards such as weapon cards can be linked to other cards to improve their performance. In order to fire the weapon, another weapon card that uses the same type of ammunition must be equipped. Some weapons do not need to be equipped and can be used on their own, but are then discarded. Other cards that can be equipped are equipment cards and action cards. The multiplayer mode, also called "Link Battle", is also a new feature. Two PSP systems running Acid can connect wirelessly so that players can compete against each other in a "sneak-off". The aim is to collect several disks before the opposing player does. Disks can be stolen by another player, so it is important not to be discovered.

Story

In 2016, a jumbo jet carrying Senator Hach, an important politician and likely future presidential candidate, is hijacked by terrorists. In exchange for the senator, the terrorists demand Pythagoras, a research project being conducted in the Republic of Moloni in southern Africa, from the US government. In order to identify the terrorists, the government begins an investigation of Pythagoras. The Moloni government refuses to cooperate with the United States because it does not want to interfere in their current affairs. In response, the U.S. sends a special undercover unit to investigate, but the team is wiped out by armed resistance. With no other choice and time running out, the U.S. government orders Solid Snake to infiltrate the lab, discover the nature of Pythagoras and rescue Senator Hach.
