Mario Super Sluggers

Mario Super Sluggers

Mario Super Sluggers, the sequel to Mario Superstar Baseball, continues the arcade gameplay of Mario sports games. Mario and his friends are invited to the Baseball Kingdom to play against each other. When Bowser learns about this, he immediately interrupts the party. As in the previous game, there are several game modes to choose from. In exhibition mode, players play a single game against each other. Players can choose various options, such as how many innings to play, whether captains can use star powers (each captain has a different star swing and throw), and whether they can turn error items on and off (error items can be thrown at fielders). The single player challenge mode is different this time around. Instead of choosing a team captain, players start with Mario, who must find teammates to compete against Bowser Jr. and Bowser. Teammates are not unlocked by playing a game, but only join the team when they complete certain objectives. Most of the action takes place in overhead perspective areas; each area is overseen by a team captain. Each captain has a special ability to find teammates and coins that can be used to buy items that help in the quest or in the game against Bowser Jr. or later against Bowser. You can get more coins in mini-games. The game field mode is slightly different from the one in Mario Superstar Baseball. As in the GameCube game, players take turns batting to score points; the one who grabs and holds the ball after a certain amount of time takes his turn. Unlike in the previous game, however, fielders can attack each other to take the ball away from the one who has it. The batter can also throw objects at the fielders to make them drop the ball and give the batter another turn.

Story

The story takes place in the challenge mode of the game. Mario and his friends travel to the Baseball Kingdom to relax and play baseball, when suddenly Bowser Jr. appears and throws the island into chaos. Mario must travel around the island and go through each of the unique and special areas to recruit different characters and captains to challenge Bowser Jr. to a baseball game. Once Bowser Jr. is defeated, he retreats, but then Bowser appears to challenge Mario's team and take over the island. After defeating Bowser, Mario's team celebrates and throws a big party. Bowser and Jr. are also invited and Bowser saves Mario from one of Wario and Waluigi's tricks.
