Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge

Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge

The first in a series of 3 racing games supported by the legendary car company, now part of Proton. The game offers a total of 32 fictional race tracks from all over the world, divided into 3 difficulty levels. There are 19 computer opponents (15 for the 8-bit versions) and you must finish in the top 10 (the top 8 for the 8-bit versions) to advance. The better you do in a race, the further back on the grid you start in the next race. The opposing drivers have puns based on the F1 drivers of the time - Ricardo Pastry and Crashhard Banger, for example. You can choose between sound effects and a variety of music tracks. The game features a simultaneous 2-player mode, but the 1-player mode only uses half of the screen, with a simple animation filling the other half. In most races, you'll have to make a pit stop to refuel in order to reach the finish line. There are obstacles on the tracks, such as oil slicks, construction sites, boulders and rivers - contact with these (or the other cars) will slow you down, but there is no damage model for the car.
