What is Legend of Grimrock? An old-school dungeon crawling game inspired by Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder and Ultima Underworld. Explore a huge dungeon full of hidden switches, pressure plates, sliding walls, trap doors and more. Discover secrets, cast spells with runes, and make potions with herbs. Fight murderous monsters and search for lost artifacts in ancient tombs. Create a party of four characters and customize them with different races, classes, abilities and traits. Legend of Grimrock is a dungeon-crawling role-playing game with an oldschool heart, but a modern execution. A group of prisoners are sentenced to certain death by being banished to the remote mountain Grimrock for heinous crimes they may have committed. What their captors don't know is that the mountain is riddled with ancient tunnels, dungeons and tombs built by long-dead civilizations. If they are ever to see daylight again and regain their freedom, the motley group of captives must form a team and descend through the mountain level by level. The game brings back the old-school challenge with highly tactical real-time combat and grid-based movement, sneaky hidden switches and secrets, as well as deadly traps and terrifying monsters. Legend of Grimrock emphasizes puzzles and exploration, and the player's wits and perception are more important tools than even the sharpest sword could be. And if you're a hardened dungeon crawling veteran and crave an extra challenge, you can arm yourself with a stack of grid paper and turn on the oldschool mode that turns off the luxury of the automap! Story
Mount Grimrock: a towering peak rises above the clouds; a weathered rock that has stood upright for ages, longer than written history. Today it is a desolate place, remembered only when things must be discarded and forgotten. An airship struggles to gain altitude as it floats toward the summit.... Four prisoners, bound with heavy chains, disembark from the ship. The court accuses them of terrible acts of treason - but by the grace of the king, their crimes are forgiven on Mount Grimrock. Their final trial is imminent. Numerous prisoners have been pardoned here, but none have returned to live their lives in freedom. They are at the top of the world - only darkness and justice await below them. When they are cast down into the open maw of the summit, they are absolved of their crimes. All before them have perished in the bowels of the mountain, but will they manage to find their way through the darkness and into the freedom that awaits them at the foot of Mount Grimrock?
