FIFA International Soccer

FIFA International Soccer

FIFA International Soccer is a 1993 club soccer video game developed by EA Canada's Extended Play Productions team and published by Electronic Arts. The game was released in December 1993 for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis console and was ported to numerous other systems in 1994. It is the first game in the FIFA series.

Story

Based on international teams (with fictitious player names), their skills in each area are rated with 10 points to give the player an overall impression of how good they are. The available options are standard: fouls and offsides can be turned on and off, the duration of the game can be set, and whether the timer runs continuously or only when the ball is in play. The game favors quick runs, short passes and brilliant shots outside the penalty area. Play figures are controlled by moving a box into the target area for the ball and then passing, lobbing or kicking directly. On the tactical side, formations can be selected, with 5 different strategies available (although not all of these combinations are useful), as well as team coverage - the areas covered by defenders, midfielders and strikers.
