Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter is a radical departure from the previous titles in the Breath of Fire series and, in a way, from standard Japanese-style RPGs in general. The game is structured like a giant dungeon crawler, without an overworld map. Combat is tactical: each character has action points (AP), which they can use to move around the screen and perform a variety of combo attacks during an encounter with an enemy. There is no magic in the game, and many of the items found in the dungeons are random. All enemies are visible on the screen. Depending on who made physical contact first, the party or the enemies get an extra turn in combat. The game allows (and even encourages) the player to restart the game from the beginning, keeping the items and group experience. The game also features a special counter - Ryu can use his traditional dragon transformation abilities, but the counter increases with each such transformation, and when the counter reaches 100, the game is over. When the counter reaches 100, the game is over. Increasing the D ratio allows characters to enter new areas each time the game is replayed.
